"The key to change... is to let go of fear." – Roseanne Cash
"Be the change you want to see in the world." – Mahatma Ghandi
"Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts." – Arnold Bennett
If you don’t create change, change will create you. – Unknown
These quotes are all so apropos for both my personal and professional lives right now. My world is in a complete state of flux…so it’s a good thing that for me, change is not a terrifying concept. For some, it is difficult to embrace…for others, like me, it’s exciting. At a minimum, it’s a topic of conversation many times over—in fact, there are no less than 27 songs, 11 albums, and 6 places all named Change (now I’ve put a song in your head, haven’t I?), and that doesn’t include the countless quotes and poems that include it as the main theme.
As we go to "press," I am embarking on a cross-country journey. We are moving both our SIG headquarters and my family to the East Coast. We are coming down from 6,400 feet to live on an island, leaving 800 record breaking inches of snow for 100% humidity (and a nearly 0% chance of snowstorms), and coming from an area where screen doors aren’t necessary to a place where palmetto bugs fly. By definition, change is the process of becoming something different. For us, it is all positive news (with the exception of the bugs).
In an effort to better support all of our members, we are excited to build out our east coast presence. Effective in July, SIG will be headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida with satellite offices in Truckee (Lake Tahoe), Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, and Clearwater, Florida. This is an integral step towards supporting our membership that is growing globally every day. SIG continues to change on a daily basis and strives to serve our membership more effectively. Each and every person who works at SIG is an agent of change. They thrive on being creative, accommodating and forward thinking. Every SIG employee is a member advocate and always has the members’ best interests in mind. Expanding to the east coast is proof of that.
Speaking of change, have you looked at the SIG website recently? It is changing daily, so if you haven’t accessed it lately, then now is a good time. The SIG Resource Center includes dozens of new tools, templates, documents, and podcasts, and significantly improved search functionality so you can more easily find what you are seeking. And the rest of the site has become more streamlined, with new content (we have launched our Inside Source executive video series and better navigation. So while you are pondering the change you want to be in the world…and the changes SIG is embracing, I’ll leave you with one more quote—a quote I think pretty much sums up my thoughts on change…hope you agree!
"There is nothing wrong with change, if it is in the right direction." - Winston Churchill
